Our New Years Resolution: To Make You Laugh
If we make you laugh in 2012, we’ll have done our job. So we can do this one of two ways. Either you can come to one of our shows and enjoy a fully-improvised hour of comedy based on your suggestions, or we can follow you home from work one night and do a show in your living room. Look, I’m not threatening you, but one way might leave you with a broken TV. Not due to any violence on our part, we’re just kind of clumsy.
So what will it be? You can think it over. No need to rush into a decision. After all, you’ve got three opportunities this month to save your coffee table.
Here are the details of our first shows of 2012, straight from the freshly-updated Upcoming Shows page:

New Year, New Laughs
The New Year is coming! And if the Mayans are right, we’ve only got until December 21 to live it up. Better start scheduling your good times now. We’ve got quite a few planned for you throughout 2012 because if we’re going down, we’re going down laughing!
Our first show of 2012 brings us back to the Westside Comedy Theater, right off the Third Street Promenade in downtown Santa Monica. We hit the stage at 8 PM on Friday January 6th to do a fully improvised show combining short-form games and long-form scenarios all made up on the spot based on suggestions you give us. Tickets are $10 for the whole night. If you hang around after our show, you’ll get to experience two other improv groups, The Waterbrains and Mission: IMPROVable. Each group has their own format and style, so you’re in for a real treat.
Celebrate the Holidays with Hilarity
Did you get stuffed on Thanksgiving? Did you get trampled on Black Friday?
The holiday season brings joy but it can also bring stress. Shopping, cooking, decorating, family gatherings – these can either be a lot of fun or higher therapist bills in the works. One of the best things to do during this time of year is get out, relax and enjoy some good comedy. Fortunately we’ve packed December with plenty of opportunities for just that sort of solution. Here are the details:
As I mentioned last week, we’re back at the Westside Comedy Theater this Friday night. Santa Monica’s best place for laughs has been renovated with a bar, which is guaranteed to make us seem much funnier. Our show starts at 8 PM and tickets cost $10. Those tickets are good for every show for the rest of the night, which means you can hang around to enjoy The Waterbrains and Mission: IMPROVable, two hilarious improv groups. Three groups all performing improv comedy might seem like much but we each have our own distinct style and format, which really keeps the whole night lively and unpredictable.
Then it’s our popular family friendly night with Jump Start, so you can bring the kids, spouse, cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents and great-grandparents and have a great night out. The show is Saturday, December 10, and starts at 8 PM with Jump Start, followed by us at around 9. Tickets are $7 for the whole show, which is at the spacious Mary Pickford Studio on Venice Blvd. at National in West LA.
And finally, it’s our monthly Tag Team Show where we’rere joined by some of our talented friends. This month, it’s the improv comedy group April’s Fools! Based in the South Bay area, they’ve been bringing laughs to Hermosa Beach and the surrounding area for over 13 years. Don’t miss your chance to see them with us on Saturday, December 17. The show starts at 8 PM at the Mary Pickford Studio. Tickets are $7.
So there you have it! Three opportunities to make the holidays just a bit sillier (in a good way). I hope to see you at one or more of this month’s shows. Each show is a completely unique experience, never to be repeated – just like a snowflake. So try to catch as many of our shows on your tongue as you can! … Wait, this metaphor just took an awkward turn. But if someone shows up in a snowsuit it will be worth it!
Lauri Fraser says it’s too early for Christmas shopping (and we help her say it)
Way back in the pre-historic days of 2008, the Magic Meathands had a special guest appearance in Lauri Fraser‘s holiday rap video “Ain’t No Reason”. Lauri is herself a Meathand alum, as well as being an actress, the voice of Jane Jetson, and the creator/host of the live storytelling show and podcast I Love a Good Story.
If you’re sick of seeing Santa in the stores before Thanksgiving, this is the song for you.
We had a fantastic pair of shows with Jump Start and Held2gether the last two Saturdays. The Mary Pickford Studio was packed with very enthusiastic audiences. Thank you to all who came out for two great nights of comedy!
Our next show for all is at the Westside Comedy Theater in Santa Monica on Friday, December 2nd at 8 PM. Immediately following us are two hilarious improv groups, The Waterbrains (frequently joined by our director Bill Johnson) and Mission: IMPROVable. $10 gets you in for the whole night of comedy. Here’s the Facebook event, if you’d like to RSVP and invite your friends.
We’re also doing a special community outreach show on Thanksgiving day for a church that gives the homeless and needy a big Thanksgiving meal. This will make our third year doing this show. It’s a great way to spend part of the holidays and we encourage you to find a way to give back to your community.
However you spend the day, The Magic Meathands wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!
So a Lion and an Elephant Meet in the Forest…
… Then what?
To find out, you’ll have to come to this Saturday’s Tag Team Comedy show with Held2gether at the Mary Pickford Studio. Or maybe something completely different will be revealed. Who knows? It’s improv comedy – anything can happen!
Last Saturday’s audience at our Family Friendly Show with Jump Start knows this full well! We had a big audience and they had big laughs. More of the same will happen this Saturday, which is our final show for November. Then we’ll be back at the Westside Comedy Theater in Santa Monica on the first Friday of December. All shows start at 8 PM. Check out our Upcoming Shows page and our Events on Facebook for prices, addresses and other helpful info.
Holiday Season Begins with Improv Comedy Show Friday in Santa Monica
What are you dressing up as for Halloween? The Magic Meathands are going as Snausages and plan on Trick or Treating at dog parks around LA. We may not get much candy but we think we’ve discovered a great new exercise and weight loss program.
Malls across America tell us that once it’s November, it’s open season for relentless Christmas marketing. To prepare yourself, you’ll need to stock up on plenty of laughter. Conveniently we’re doing a show this Friday which will more likely than not result in you laughing. We’ll perform a mixture of short-form games and long-form scenarios all fully improvised based on your suggestions. You might even get to join us up on stage.
So come on out and join us at M.i.’s Westside Comedy Theater in Santa Monica at 8 PM this Friday, November 4. Tickets are $10 and are good for the two improv shows immediately following us, The Waterbrains and Mission: Improvable.
Featured Magic Meathands: Marshall McGehee, Corey Blake, Nikki Turner, and Carol McLaine!

Welcome, or What the Heck Is All This?!
Thank you for joining us in this new corner of the growing Magic Meathands online empire!
If you received an email from us recently via WordPress.com, you probably signed up to our mailing list at one of our shows over the last few years. Or maybe you signed up on our website. We’re transitioning our fan club community newsletter to this blog format, so from now on you’ll hear about shows, online videos, our community outreach program, auditions, and other exciting announcements from this blog. By subscribing to our blog, you’ll get an email letting you know about new postings here. It’s the perfect low-maintenance way for you to enjoy our Meathandy goodness!
All you have to do is confirm your sign-up, which is easy. Here’s how:
In the email you received, there will be a link in there asking you to confirm that you still love us. Assuming you do (why wouldn’t you?!), you’ll want to click on that link, which will take you to a secure page that will allow you to customize how often you get an email from us. We’ll be posting here about once or twice a week, so be sure to pick the frequency that is most convenient for you. You can set it to:
- Instant: The moment we post a blog, you’ll get an email about it. Perfect for our biggest fans!
- Daily: At around 5 PM local time, you should receive an email with all of the day’s blogging activity. If we don’t post anything that day, you won’t get anything. What a perfect nightcap!
- Weekly: At the end of the week, you’ll get a single email containing everything we’ve posted earlier in that week. This is the Weekend Warrior setting! (Or you love us, but you don’t love-love us, and that’s OK too.)
If you’re reading this and didn’t get an email, you can still subscribe to our blog! Just type your email address into the box at the top right corner where it says “Follow Blog via Email”. Or if you’re a fancy computer person, you can subscribe to our RSS feed.
You can always unsubscribe at any time, no questions asked. In fact, every email will include a link to manage your subscription, if you find the frequency you chose isn’t working out. As ever, we will never sell or give away your email address for any other purposes but for us to keep in touch with you.
In fact, we love hearing from you! Under each blog post, you can leave a comment about what you think. You’ll also notice our Facebook and Twitter feeds on either side of this post, and there’s also our YouTube channel, where we’ve got original sketch comedy videos and footage from our live shows. If you’re on any one of those social media sites, friend, follow and/or subscribe, and be sure to leave a comment.
The internet is a lot of fun, but truth be told, there’s an even better way to stay connected: Live and in person! Sure it’s old fashioned, but we think it’s still the best way to do improv. We’ve got two exciting shows for you this weekend!
- Friday at 8 PM, we’re performing at the Westside Comedy Theater, which has just been renovated with a bar and improved seating! Tickets are $10, and your ticket is good for the rest of the night (The Waterbrains at 9 PM and Mission: IMROVable at 10 PM).
- Saturday at 8 PM, it’s our popular Family Friendly show with Jump Start Comedy Improv, an improv group from the Beach Cities area of LA county! The show is at our new home base of the Mary Pickford Studio. Tickets are $7 for the entire night!
